Missions / Mission 01
Solar System Speed Run
Put the eight planets in order from the Sun, against the clock. The clock starts on your first tap and stops when the eighth planet lands. Beat it with no mistakes and no peeking, in under 60 seconds, and the mission is done.

The order from the Sun
A trick for remembering it: My Very Educated Mother Just Served Us Nachos. Distances are averages, in AU — one AU is the average Earth–Sun distance, 149,598,000 km. Reading this during a run counts as peeking, so that run will not set a best time.
What you're learning
The order, and what the eight are made ofOrder from the Sun. Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune.
- The first four are small and rocky. Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars all have solid ground.
- Jupiter and Saturn are gas giants, made mostly of hydrogen and helium, with no solid surface.
- Uranus and Neptune are ice giants: they hold a lot more water, ammonia and methane.
- The asteroid belt sits between Mars and Jupiter. The Kuiper Belt starts out past Neptune. Both are regions full of small bodies.
- Pluto is not on the list. The International Astronomical Union reclassified it as a dwarf planet in 2006, because it has not cleared other objects out of its orbit.
- Want the numbers behind each planet — how far, how long a year, how big? The Solar System Map lesson has them.
